Dutchman Carpentry and Home Improvement LLC is a locally owned and operated Limited Liability
Company headquartered in Leonardtown, Maryland. We are currently serving all areas of St. Mary's County as well as southern
Charles and Calvert Counties.
Owner Steve Van Abbema studied forestry in college but ultimately decided that carpentry
was his life's calling. He has since worked in all fields of residential construction, including new construction, remodeling,
and finish carpentry.
Over the past several years, many conversations with friends and neighbors pointed to a real need for local
carpenters who exhibited integrity and professionalism. With 20 years of experience under his "tool belt," Steve decided
to pursue his home improvement license and begin his own company, Dutchman Carpentry and Home Improvement LLC, to serve the
needs of these local residents. Now that the business is well-established, Steve looks for opportunities to give back to the
community. Steve has been involved in Christmas in April, has cut wood for the annual SMCM cardboard boat race, and has supported
Discover U Children's Museum by constructing and sponsoring a vertical wind tube "Museum-on-the-Go!" exhibit at the Leonardtown
Beach Party on the Square (see County Times article here).
A Letter from the Owner:
I grew up in a small Dutch town in Northwest Iowa where family, community, and work ethic were strongly
emphasized. When starting this company I selected the trade name "Dutchman" because it reflects my heritage and the importance
I place on these values today. I know from experience and from accounts of others that homeowners are often frustrated by
unreturned phone calls, dishonest business dealings, and poor craftsmanship. I strive to provide prompt and courteous service
to clients and I pride myself on attention to every detail. In today's market the condition of your home should be important
